The Four-year Montessori Experience

The 4-year program at Priyadarshini is built on the Montessori Mantra — ‘Follow The Child’, which allows adults to observe the individual child expressing his or her needs for holistic growth during these formative years. Our program is designed to help establish a foundation for the construction of your child’s personality, as well as for the learning patterns and social skills that will serve your child throughout their life.

While the conventional approach to preschooling includes Play School, Nursery, Lower Kindergarten, and Upper Kindergarten, the Montessori approach to education at the preschool level is a comprehensive 4-year program — each of the 4 years is essential for the complete Montessori experience. Within the program, your child moves seamlessly from one year to the next, having found the support and the opportunities to sharpen their skill set each step of the way.

Step 1

At the age of about two to three years, children are conscious of their ability to move, and speak. They now need an environment with the necessary support and opportunities to further develop these abilities. They also need to interact with a sizable number of children who belong to the same age group so that they can develop their social skills.

This is why we have Step One – to help your child transition from home life to the Montessori system. In Step One, your child spends about two hours in a stress free unhindered environment which allows for the discovery of the self.

Mont 1

Mont 2

Mont 2 is a natural progression from Mont 1. Your child further develops mastery in the areas of bodily coordination, language and arithmetic, while truly opening up in their interactions with other children. By exploring the world and inquiring into his or her own mind, your child develops the perspective and self-awareness that is appropriate to this age.

Mont 3

At the completion of the preschool Montessori program, your child should be ready to integrate into a mainstream school with its conventional classroom setup and traditional approach to education. Mont 3 at Priyadarshini is designed to prepare your child for this transition. In this final year of the preschool Montessori program, your child develops comprehensive reading skills, along with well-established writing and arithmetic skills, and becomes sufficiently familiar with the Hindi and Kannada languages.

By taking part in a variety of activities, your child will develop sensitivity to a range of social and cultural issues, thus fostering a caring and nurturing disposition towards other people as well as the environment. The lessons learned and the abilities developed throughout the program will allow your child to face people and situations with confidence!

At the end of Mont 3, children are sufficiently prepared to face the world at large, as appropriate to their age, having matured into capable and confident 6-year-olds. They are now able to draw from a wellspring of creativity and skills developed, as they advance into childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, and beyond.
